  1. Turn it off or remove the battery if frozen
  2. Press and hold the Volume button plus the Power button at the same time
  3. Release both buttons when you see the Recovery mode
  4. Use the volume buttons scroll through the recovery manu and use the power key to confirm selection
  5. Scroll down to 'Wipe data/factory reset' and press the power button
  6. Scroll down to 'Yes---delete all use data'.
  7. Wait until you see complete.
  8. Scroll up to Reboot now and press the power button.

OK - it sounds like you have a firmware issue. I you have Whatsapp and are able to download a file that is about 400MB, then I would try and walk you through the flashing steps.

I have pressed the volume and power button together and it opened Factory mode not recovery mode and I believe its not the same thing because there is no wipe data option.
