SASSA Power Manje fraud warning - EasyPay/Net1 CPS

Solved Featured 1 Answers 841 Views Umoya/Power Manje (SASSA)
Warning to those buying advanced electricity through the service called Power Manje (or Umoya Manje) from their SASSA account. This service is offered by EasyPay who is a subsidiary of Net1 CPS who is in charge of making SASSA payouts. Unlike their other service called Umoya Manje which lets you buy advance airtime, Power Manje lets you buy electricity in advance. One SASSA beneficiary has just noticed the following horror.

The SASSA beneficiary in question receives R700 of monthly Child aid grant and is in the habbit of buying R200 (which is the max offered) of electricity in advance through the Power Manje service. This total can only be purchased in separate vouchers or tokens of R50. The first R50 yielded 40 kWh but the other 3 vouchers returned vouchers worth only 25 kWh for each. So that the total kWh received for R200 was then only 115 kWh instead of 160Kwz. That is a 45 kWh difference withheld fraudulently - more than R50 worth of electricity!

While Net1 CPS or their subsidiary EasyPay are reputable and established companies, the employees are still sadly capable of mischievous schemes such as these. So be alert and watchful for such and share the warning with others! We are not sure as to what course of legal could be taken to have this investigated and sorted out so the best recourse maybe to refrain from using the Power Manje service entirely for now. The same has NOT been reported under the Umoya Manje airtime service however.
