Hello. You must have access to internet when checking software updates but so far it seems like Alcatel have not yet released any software update for the Vodacom Smart tab 3G. 
To check:

  1. Make sure time and date is up to pa
  2. Make sure your tab is fully charged
  3. Connect to a fine Wi-Fi network.
  4. Go to Settings 
  5. About tablet
  6. System updates 
  7. Check update
