I've had the same problem and found out by accident that I can unlock vodafone protect with the same passcode I use to unlock my phone/simcard.

Hi. Follow the steps here http://www.satechhelp.co.za/4644/Reset-Vodafone-Protect-Pin-Online-South-Africa to reset the Vodafone Protect PIN if you still remember and have access to the email address you used when registering the Protect app. Otherwise, let us know the the brand and model number of your locked device and we will try and walk you through a hard reset which will sadly be necessary. A hard reset will erase all user data and apps and restores the phone to its out of the box's state.
