Welcome SA Tech Help, Questions are normally answered in less than 10 minutes

All Google certified Android smartphones and tablets are obliged to feature a Recovery partition amongst other system and user data related partitions. Booting into which partition presents an option to reset of all user data and cache amongst others recovery options. This comes in handy whenever users find themselves locked out of the main system either by a pattern, PIN or password they cannot remember. Or whenever corrupt user data or system cache is resulting in a partial or complete device operating system malfunction.

Booting in this mode requires external key press combinations and because the combination to be used tend to differ from one device model to the next, I have tried to list them below so you can just try each one whenever you do not know the exact combination that works on your particular. All devices should be powered OFF prior to the key combination.

  • Press and hold both the VolumeUp and the Power key and release as soon as the phone powers up
  • Press and hold both the VolumeDown and the Power key and release as soon as the phone powers up
  • Press and hold both the VolumeUp + VolumeDown and the Power key and release as soon as the phone powers up
  • Press and hold both the VolumeDown and the Power key and release as soon as the phone powers up and repeatedly press the Volume Up until you access the recovery menu (or see the bot with NO COMMAND)
  • Press and hold both the VolumeUp + Home and the Power key and release as soon as the phone powers up
  • Press and hold both the VolumeUp + Camera and the Power key and release as soon as the phone powers up
  • Press and hold both the VolumeUp and the Power key and release only the VolumeUp key as soon as the phone vibrates and quickly press the VolumeDown
  • Press and hold both the Volume Up and the Power key and release them as soon as the screen lights up - then start tapping the Volume Up key until the the Android System Menu is displayed.
  • Press and hold both the Volume Up and the Power key and release only the Power as soon as the screen lights up but continue holding down the Volume Up key until the the Android System Menu is displayed
  • Press and hold the Power key and quickly hold the Volume down as well and continue holding both down until the recovery menu is displayed

Results: You get different results with the above key combo. Some will lead you straight to the Recovery Menu, Some will display a green robot with an exclamation mark and the text 'No Command' (short press the power key, VolumeUp or the Option key to display the recovery). Some may display a menu with: Recovery, Fast Boot, Normal (choose the Recovery option).
