Ok - it just gets stuck and the logo screen and would go no further - and I decided to just reset

Hey Monica - Power up with Volume Up + the Power key to try and access the Android System recovery menu from your which you should be able to 'Wipe data/factory' and thereby reset the LG Optimus Fuel aka LG-L34C. A rather advance way is available here http://androidarea51.com/all-things-root/twrp-cwm-and-a-way-to-boot-to-them!/ Feel free to resubmit a follow up question should you still have issue.
