Welcome SA Tech Help.
I want to buy a touchscreen Android smartphone for my aged or rather old father but I fear the Operating System may be too complicated for him and I was wondering if there is any Android Smartphone manufacturer who tries to be accomodative and offers some features that present a simpler interface without messing with the standard Android OS platform?

Hi Jill. It is true that the Android OS can be relatively complex even for younger non-avid users but that no is reason to deprive our aged loved ones of the smart-features that this excellent and renown OS  offers that would help make their lives easier. While apps like Whatsapp can be cross-platformed, the user-friendliness varies from platform to platform and whether it is a press-buttoned or touch-screened phone verily matters. Also, an Android device normally means a larger screen which is good news for seniors who may have sight difficulties. An Android device I would recommend for the purpose is the Acer Android range that offers Quick Mode. These let you pick only apps deemed necessary base on personal needs and leaves the rest lock away. Below are two examples of these offered around South Africa

  • Acer Liquid Z200
  • Acer Liquid E700
  • Acer Liquid Jade
